Ebenezer

Come and raise a Christmas blessing,
For this day is born God's son--
Adam's lost estate possessing,
Now a new age is begun.
Let me sing a joyous sonnet
As the angels sang that night
When that hill with sheep upon it
Blazed with new creation's light.

Here I raise my Ebenezer
God's great grace to celebrate:
In the reign of August Caesar,
Christ has opened Heaven's gate.
In a stable, in a manger,
Born midst hay and dirt and mud,
Born to rescue us from danger
By the shedding of His blood.

O to grace how great a debtor
On this day, we all must be.
Christ's fulfilled the law's full letter
And has set the prisoners free.
All sin's forces are defeated
And we walk in a new way
Till we stand in Him completed
All because of Christmas day.
